Andrea Scott-Pearse (Loeppky) is a professional artist living and working in King Township Ontario. Originally from London Ontario, as a child she was involved in the Arts in various forms including dance, music and theatre arts. As a teen she aspired to attend the Ontario College of Art (OCAD), but ended up in a more ‘practical’ vocation, Nursing and later on working in the Pharmaceutical industry. Until 2004 she pursued artistic expression only sporadically, taking occasional drawing and painting workshops while raising a family and full-time work.
Through mostly independent study, Andrea has developed a competency working in acrylics and oils. Stylistically, her realistic and impressionistic works tend to focus on the play of light and shadow. Much of her non-commissioned landscape work is based on local surroundings. In contrast to her more representative works, Andrea also explores creative expression through abstraction. She describes her approach as largely spontaneous, intuitive and experimental. Initial concepts frequently evolve as the paint on canvas inspires an unanticipated direction, resulting in a wide variety of finished pieces. Whether representational, loosely impressionistic or abstract, her paintings are frequently characterized by use of bold colour and repetitive shapes resulting in strong compositions.
Andrea first showed her work in 2006, and has over time achieved recognition and success through studio tours, group juried shows and solo shows in non-gallery venues. A number of her landscapes have appeared on magazines covers and in print. Andrea has become involved in the local art community. Along with a group of artists and cultural enthusiasts, she contributed to the establishment of Arts Society King, a community-based umbrella organization to support arts, culture and heritage in King Township.
As an accredited ‘Lead Artist Educator’, Andrea has mentored other artists, teaches primary school workshops, critiques secondary school art classes and runs painting workshops for adults out of her home studio.
Andrea’s work is found in private, corporate and institutional collections in Canada, as well as private collections in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Australia.
I have heard it said that as visual artists, our work is its own intrinsic reward; that is, art can have no need or purpose other than the satisfaction it gives the maker. This rings true for me, I paint for the pleasure of applying paint to canvas, transforming a blank flat surface into something that will capture the attention and interest of the viewer. At times I enjoy the challenge of conveying the essence of something that has caught my attention, while at other times I experiment with new techniques, allowing colours, shapes and textures to unfold under my painting tools. The door remains wide open in terms of my creative evolution, I believe what is most important is to experiment and to continually learn and grow as an artist. I embrace the opportunity to do what I truly love best.
